Music Advanced Subsidiary (AS)

Music AS is an alternative option to study alongside your 3 A levels.

Music AS is a level 3 qualification which can be studied in Year 12, with the examination taken in the summer. It is aimed at students who have an interest in the subject and play an instrument to Grade IV and beyond. There are no other formal entry requirements for this qualification. We will be using the Eduqas specification.

The AS level is split into three sections: performance; composition and appraising.
You would be required to:

• perform a 6 minute recital, with the pieces being around Grade 5 standard;
• produce two short compositions
• sit a paper on Western Classical Music and one other genre from Rock & Pop, Musical Theatre or Jazz.
