Thank you for considering BWS Sixth Form for your A levels. We offer excellent academic opportunities that will allow you to enjoy your chosen subjects and achieve the highest grades. Our experienced subject specialists teach a wide selection of courses, allowing students to find their ideal combination of A levels. BWS students are sought by universities and employers, so studying at Bishop Wordsworth's is a great investment in your future. We have been teaching female students through a partnership arrangement for many years, and are excited that from September 2020 BWS Sixth Form will become fully co-educational.

We are also proud of the strong communities and rich opportunities our school offers. Our students enjoy strong friendships, and excel in music, drama and a wide variety of sporting and academic competitions, as well as providing leadership for younger pupils. They display responsibility, humour and creativity, and contribute freely to the life of our wider local community.

We believe Bishop Wordsworth’s School has a great deal to offer, and hope that you will be excited by the opportunities available here.

Our Heritage

The Bishop’s School, as it was then called, opened on its current site on the 16th April 1890 with 45 boys. Girls were welcomed in 1902 and the school was coeducational until 1927. We now have around 1000 pupils across the school, about 300 of whom are in the Sixth Form.

The legacy of Bishop John Wordsworth and our heritage and traditions are something we are very proud of. The marriage of old and new, historical roots and innovative development makes for a unique educational experience for every one of our students.

With our privileged location within the Close and monthly school services in the splendour of the Cathedral, lasting memories are created for current and former students alike.
