We have been running extra-curricular Chinese (Mandarin) classes very successfully since 2006. Lessons lead eventually to a GCSE in Chinese, taken when students are ready in Year 13, and all students have achieved A/A* every year. The students sitting their GCSE Chinese papers for the new specification in 2019 all gained grade 8/9.

Chinese is offered to Year 8 students, who are expected to have high level of motivation and commitment. The students from Year 8 to Year 11 have a one-hour Chinese lesson after school every week. For students in Years 12 to 13 Chinese lessons are accommodated within the school day in timetabled sessions.

We use JinBu textbook for KS3 and GCSE (9-1) Chinese textbook for KS4, with the AQA exam board at GCSE.

The school has run three successful China trips with students who were learning Chinese to Nanjing, Beijing and Shanghai.
