Prospectus

Thank you for considering BWS Sixth Form for your A levels. We offer outstanding academic opportunities that will allow you to enjoy your chosen subjects and achieve the highest grades. Our experienced subject specialists teach a wide selection of courses, and our aim is to both deliver in terms of results and also build independence in our students. Because of this BWS students are sought by both universities and employers, so studying at Bishop Wordsworth's is a great investment in your future. Since September 2020 our Sixth Form has been fully co-educational; we currently have around 400 students in Years 12 & 13, 35% of whom are female. Each year around half of our Year 12 students join us from other schools.

We are also proud of the strong communities and rich opportunities our school offers. Our students enjoy strong friendships, and excel in music, drama and a wide variety of sporting and academic competitions, as well as providing leadership for younger pupils. They display responsibility, humour and creativity, and contribute freely to the life of our wider local community. Since 1890 Bishop's has occupied a place right at the very heart of Salisbury, and our young men and women continue to play important roles throughout local society and farther afield. Bishop's also has a diaspora which is spread across the Globe; they return regularly to bring their huge breadth of experience back to benefit our current students.

We believe that the programme that we offer here at Bishop Wordsworth’s is as extraordinary as our Sixth Form boys and girls, and hope that you will be excited by the opportunities available here too. We'd love to welcome you for a tour so please do book a place at an open event or contact the Sixth Form Office Team to set up a visit...

Our Heritage

The Bishop’s School, as it was then called, opened on its current site on the 16th April 1890 with 45 boys. Girls were welcomed in 1902 and the school was coeducational until 1927, when the girls departed to their new school on Stratford Road. Originally there were boarders, but since the Second World War we have catered for day pupils only. We now have around 1200 pupils across the school, about 400 of whom are in the Sixth Form. In Years 7-11 we cater for boys only, but since September 2020 we have welcomed girls to our coeducational sixth; approximately 30% of Years 12 and 13 are female students.

The legacy of Bishop John Wordsworth and our heritage and traditions are something we are very proud of. The marriage of old and new, historical roots and innovative development makes for a unique educational experience for every one of our students. We want to make being at Bishop's special for all of our boys and girls.

With our privileged location within the Close and monthly school services in the splendour of the Cathedral, lasting memories are created for current and former students alike. Our students aim high and achieve amazing things every year. We are hugely proud of all of them and of our place at the very heart of Salisbury's society and culture.
