Admissions Overview

Bishop Wordsworth’s is a Selective Grammar School for boys, with responsibility for setting its own testing and admission requirements. Parents of boys from any area within reasonable travelling distance of the School may apply for admission to the School

There are different stages at which boys can join Bishop Wordsworth’s School (BWS). Please click on the link that applies to you:

The 11 plus: for boys who are in year 6 of primary school during the academic year 2020-2021 and who are hoping to join BWS in September 2021, Please click here for the 11+ Application page.

Late Entry: for boys aged between 11 and 16 who are currently at another secondary school and who are hoping to join BWS. Click here;

Sixth Form: for students aged between 16 and 18 who are choosing a sixth form centre at which to continue their secondary education in September 2020. click here.

Financial Hardship: for parents who would otherwise wish for their son (or daughter for sixth form) to apply to Bishop Wordsworth’s School but are concerned about costs of daily travel, uniform and educational trips, there are some specific charitable funds available. This includes early help such as attending open days from primary school through to trips in support of A level studies. Please see our Financial Assistance page for further information.
