BWS has a proud history and tradition of sporting provision, whether it is for our top performers or the beginner.
Sport plays a central role in the school's aims to encourage all our pupils to develop their potential by setting themselves the highest standards of excellence and achievement with integrity and confidence. The school's broad range of sport activities provides students with a well-rounded, balanced education catering for a wide range of talents and interests and adds great enjoyment to students school life.
We are committed to providing inclusive, challenging and enriching Physical Education and sporting opportunities, which promote high standards of performance and a positive attitude towards sport and physical activity for life, to inspire and motivate all our pupils to lead happy, purposeful and responsible lives.
We strive for national recognition across a wide range of sports and compete on a local, regional and national level, with a multitude of sports available and success achieved across the board. We also encourage our students to compete outside of school in order to gain an invaluable team and social experience. This enables both BWS and the clubs to benefit from a more knowledgeable, experienced and skilled pool of talent.
Sport and physical activity provides an environment where we are able to learn most about ourselves and others. Out on the playing fields, in a cave, out in the woods or half way up a rock face we often find ourselves doing things, thinking things and surprising ourselves like never before. Physical activity and developing a physical literacy stimulates not only the body but also the mind and facilitates a making of bonds with others that are not easily broken. Here lie some of the key reasons why physical activity is central to BWS, the building of skills, the building of friendships and the building of individuals motivated and determined to go out and enrich the world in which we all live.

Upon joining the school your child will be registered with our partners return2play who manage all of our concussions both on and off the field of sport within school. Their website has a page with all the relevant information regarding symptoms and management.
We also have a paediatric trauma trained physio running a triage clinic during the Autumn term and treatment can be requested outside of this time or contacted for advice.
As well as this we run weekly yoga sessions for all our team players and follow prehabiliation programmes through PE/Games based around those produced both by the FA and RFU to reduce injuries in the first instance.
In order to run the competitive programme that we do at the level that we operate we rely on the support of not only our sponsors listed above, but also a contribution from those playing in the form of a Sports Sub. At the start of each term a letter is sent home asking for your support which goes directly to your child’s chosen sport to include fixture costs including kit, transport, first aid, referees and teas, but also access to our physio, return2play and our ability to offer video analysis to our senior sides.
If you or your company would be interested in supporting sport as a whole or a specific sport please contact rdg@bishopwordsworths.org.uk
We welcome parental support, particularly on a Saturday with block rugby fixtures. If you would be willing to take a team or are able to referee please contact rdg@bishopwordsworths.org.uk
Students in the lower and middle school should wear the school PE/Games kit available from the school shop for all sports lessons. This kit is also available to the 6th Form as well. For those who make teams and/or start to train more throughout the week we realise a need for more sports kit. This may be in the form of plain navy generic sports clothing, or one of the option below.
Our teamwear supplier Tsunami run an online shop that delivers termly, the shop window opens for a window of two weeks and then closes to allow production and the lead time for delivery etc. The window for ordering opens 6-8 weeks proceeding the next term.
We also allow Team BWS branded items from local company Loon Sports.
We have teamed up with Grays Team Sports (Gilbert) to offer an online equipment shop for rugby, netball, cricket and hockey.
The shop is designed to have a beginner, intermediate and competition level and price point option for equipment.
By ordering through the website the school receives credit for us to then purchase our own training equipment.
